ICO Launches Coffee Market Data Platform

The International Coffee Organization has introduced a platform bringing together coffee prices, futures markets, certified stocks, production, consumption and trade flows for more than 200 countries. Its September 17 campaign update describes the service as a way to make market information more accessible.

Current data and historical access

The ICO says the platform refreshes daily and offers current-year data free of charge. Historical access has separate conditions: eligible members, intergovernmental organisations and researchers can request the 1990–2018 archive, while commercial users can purchase more detailed historical or bulk datasets.

Reading the figures

The ICO identifies Secretariat estimates separately from official national statistics. Our view: Ethiopian coffee buyers can use the platform to put supplier discussions in a wider market context. For a purchase decision, a specific lot still needs its own quality assessment and current quotation; an aggregate indicator cannot establish its price.
